An artistic research into the phenomena of cooperation
The starting point for this research was my preoccupation with R. Buckminster Fuller’s work „Synergetics“, and my need to better understand complex systems and the criteria by which they function. I am interested in the principles of self-organization of a system or a group, up to its “tipping-point,” and in the potential for cooperation.
Since 2011, this research has included a growing collection of descriptions of different adaptive systems given by scientists and activists. In video portraits they talk about their research: the experimental behavioral and evolutionary biologists Ragavendra Gadankar (on “social wasps,” Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore) and Jens Krause (on the swarming behavior of fish and people, Leibniz Institute, Berlin); the Neuropsychologist Grit Hein (on empathy and cooperation research, Department of Economics, University of Zurich); the cultural scientist Wolfgang Schmidt (on the “transitory Yanomamis in the Amazon,” Berlin) and the activist Nomika Zion (on the urban kibbutz „Migvan“, Sderot, Israel).
